XEROGRAPHIC BIFROST is the [[VALEDICTION ARTIFICE]] [[project codename]] for [[osmarks.net]] compute acquisition, upgrades and maintenance. XEROGRAPHIC BIFROST has acquired the following hardware for osmarks.net (formerly osmarks.tk, formerly osmarks.ml):

== `straylight` (2025-12 to present)

* Intel Xeon "Q30H" engineering sample (56C/112T, [[Emerald Rapids]]; [[https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/es-xeon-discussion.5031/page-212#post-469778]]).
* Custom ATX build.
* Gigabyte MS03-CE0 mainboard (patched "noACM" BIOS).
* 192GB DDR5-4800.
* NVIDIA RTX 3090 FE (24GB; from `protagonism`).
* 4TB NVMe SSD (from `protagonism`).
* 4TB mechanical HDD (media; from `protagonism`), 10TB mechanical HDD (from `protagonism`).

Procurement of `straylight` was disrupted by the [[2025H2 RAM price problem]], resulting in the [["temporary"]] substitution of 4800MT/s RDIMMs in place of 5600MT/s, the bringing forward of part of the mid-life RAM upgrade plan and [["temporary"]] six-channel operation.

`straylight` was mostly built to allow for more I/O (as `protagonism` could not accommodate additional PCIe cards) and CPU performance, as `protagonism`'s limited core count had significantly bottlenecked [[https://osmarks.net/memescale/|RADIUS TYRIAN phase II]]. osmarks.net research investigated [[Milan]], [[Genoa]] QS, [[Granite Rapids]] and [[Emerald Rapids]] ES before choosing EMR ES due to the ESes' reported production-like stability and configuration, high core counts and clocks, low cost and accelerators ([[Advanced Matrix Extensions|AMX]], [[Quick Assist Technology|QAT]], etc).

== `protagonism` (2022-12 to 2025-12)

* AMD Ryzen 5 5500 CPU (6C/12T, [[Cezanne]] (mobile [[Zen 3]])).
* Custom µATX build.
* Gigabyte B550M DS3H mainboard.
* 64GB DDR4-3200.
* NVIDIA RTX 3090 FE (24GB).
* 4TB NVMe SSD (Samsung PM983; upgraded 2024-09 from 1TB Kioxia drive).
* 4TB mechanical HDD (media), 10TB mechanical HDD (backups; upgraded from 4TB HDD from `loki`).

`protagonism` was originally planned to use 32GB of RAM and a NVIDIA RTX 2080 Ti GPU, but due to [[accidents]], [[osmarks.net operations]] ordered twice as many DIMMs as initially needed, and the build plan was revised at short notice to include an RTX 3090 during unanticipated delays.

It was intended to provide capacity for more complex services and research, centrally AI applications such as the (at the time) recently-developed [[Meme Search Engine]].
